When using PVC for blister packaging, the following points should be noted:
Environmental humidity control: PVC materials have poor thermal stability, poor moisture barrier properties and poor oxygen barrier properties. In subtropical or tropical areas with high humidity, PVC-packaged products are prone to moisture absorption or instability after moisture absorption, resulting in the failure of drugs to pass the stability test of packaging materials and even medication risks.
Environmental issues: PVC produces hydrochloride when burned, and highly toxic dioxins when incompletely burned, so Germany and Switzerland even legislate to prohibit its incineration. In addition, PVC releases chlorine and hydrogen chloride after heating, which corrodes metal machinery, molds and special protective coatings of heating plates, affecting the health of operators.
Alternative materials: Due to these shortcomings of PVC, pharmaceutical companies are looking for alternative materials. Polypropylene (PP) film has entered the field of vision of pharmaceutical companies as a good alternative. Although there are some difficulties in its processing, it is considered a strong candidate material.
